On June 4 and 7, 1972, vandals inflicted over $2,500 worth of damage by breaking windows at the courthouse, high school and private property around town. The destructive-minded persons also stole and damaged a new five-speed bicycle from a home, scratched the finishes of parked cars with a sharp instrument and slashed tires, and broke the thermostatic control on the outside wall of the courthouse, causing the heat to rise in the building. Above, high school custodian Tom Laine places temporary coverings over the smashed windows.
