At the Grand Marais Garden Club’s pre-Easter meeting in April 1961, a contest was held featuring specially designed hats. The winners were, from left, Mrs. Ade Toftey for the silliest hat, with a long-stemmed rose; Mrs. Paul Johnson, for the most beautiful hat; and Mrs. Edwin Thoreson for the cleverest creation featuring miniature earth-moving equipment. Judges for the event were Mrs. Ed Holte and County Agent Jerry Eisler.
