Happy birthday to us! As the Cook County News-Herald begins its 129th year, we thought it would be interesting to take a look at an edition published 115 years ago— on Jan. 16, 1904. Although the early editions of the “Cook County Herald” contained mostly world and national news and only a few local stories, readers of Volume 12, Number 34 would have learned of a sickness in the village and along the line of the reservation; high winds and ice that hindered the transportation of freight; a $5 bounty on wolves to supplement a $7.50 state bounty that was approved by the county commissioners; and news that Johnson the barber is back and at work at the old stand.
