Four local telephone company employees were among the many models at the North Shore Hospital Auxiliary’s style show held in conjunction with Mother’s Day at Hotel East Bay on April 28, 1961. From left are Mrs. Jim Mealy, Mrs. John Backlund, Miss Paulette Lehto, and Mrs. Robert Lee. All of the fashions featured at the event were available from local merchants. Thanks to Harry Peterson and Fritz Sobanja of Grand Marais for identifying the player whose name was omitted from the original 1961 photo caption that appeared in the March 9, 2019 edition of the News-Herald. The “Historical Reflections” photo featured seven members of the grade school basketball championship team but only six names; the player who was not identified is Billy Gordon.
