The flag flew on Bob Sopoci’s tip-up, but no one was home! Sopoci and other fishermen were faced with snow, wind and slush on the BWCAW winter trout opener on Dec. 29, 1991. Temperatures plummeted to 22 degrees below zero in Grand Marais, and minus 30 degrees on the Gunflint Trail.
