Diane Silver of Schroeder shared this photo of Bob Silver, formerly of Schroeder, at age 84 operating his favorite tractor in December of 1997. Bob passed away in early 2002, and this machine, a 1949 Collector International Tractor Crawler, sat in retirement for 17 years behind the Cross River Lumber Company building. With recent vandalism, wrote Diane, it was time to put it up for sale. A central Minnesota man purchased it for his 12-year-old son to restore as a 4-H project. The blade was removed and transported on a Friday night. The next morning, to much amazement, the tractor was fired up after 17 years of rest and driven onto the trailer. Bob’s spirit must have been there, because it started right up! “Bob would be happy it will be restored and that a young boy will be involved with the restoration,” said Diane.
