Historical Reflections

Twelve-year-old Breanna Noyce and her lively mallard Yamona were featured in the Jan. 19, 1998 News-Herald after Noyce and her friend Carly Borak found the wayward duck wandering the downtown streets and decided to take her in and care for her. When found, Yamona appeared to be freezing to death, as she had ice on her wings, was shaking, and “wasn’t walking very well,” Noyce explained. The duck was cared for in the Noyces’ home where she was fed bread crumbs and even enjoyed use of the bath tub before being turned over to a licensed wild animal care giver later that winter.
