Autumn of 1927 was billed as“The Season for Solacing Drinks,”as evidenced by this Oct. 20 front-page feature aimed at “the resourceful housewife.” Recipes featured included – you guessed it – plenty of Hawaiian pineapple in such beverages as Waikiki Punch, Ambrosia Fruit Punch, Pineappleade, Sparkling Punch, and even Pineapple Milkshake! Pineapple was also a recommended ingredient in several other “zestful” recipes the News-Herald printed for the Thanksgiving feast, delicacies that would be considered a rarity even today.
