Circa early 1970, Billy Blackwell, wearing a hat, and Rudolph Peterson mark time on the drum with Grand Portage tribal members Lex Porter, Speedy Porter and a young lady whose name has been forgotten, to perform a ceremonial dance for the public at what is believed to be the Fisherman’s Picnic in either 1971 or 1972. Blackwell said a request was made by the Grand Marais Lions Club to have the Band members come to the Picnic and display some of their heritage. Blackwell said the event turned out well and the crowd was appreciative and respectful of the dance and song.
