Although the annual Grand Marais Art Festival is usually blessed with pleasant weather, the scene in 2006 was not pretty after near gale-force winds struck Saturday night. The National Weather Service said it was calm at 3 a.m., but by 4 a.m. the winds were clocked at 26 mph, gusting to 36 mph. Although the storm was short-lived, it brought a downpour and caused destruction of tents and some fragile artwork – in fact, some of the tents even ended up in the harbor.
