The most important—and perhaps coldest— job during a sled dog race belongs to the time keepers. These hardy (but unknown) souls are shown keeping watch (and times) during the Grand Portage Training and Nutrition Race held in Mineral Center on Dec. 12, 1981. Seventy teams from all over Minnesota, Wisconsin and Ontario participated in the one-day event.
