Three brothers, Mike, George and Roger Morrison attended the 100th anniversary service at St. Francis Xavier Church in Grand Marais on July 4, 1995. Their grandfather, James Morrison, was one of the church’s early elders. Father Ron Gagne of St. John’s Catholic parish in Grand Marais led the service at the historic building at Chippewa City, which was “packed to overflowing,” according to contemporary news accounts. Thanks to the efforts of the Cook County Historical Society, the church is open for tours on Sundays from noon to 2 p.m. through the summer.
