Historical Reflections

This old postcard shows the cabins that once stood next to the Harbor Light Supper Club. The Harbor Light was originally the Nightengale Café, owned by Marvin Maxwell and Myron Hahn. They leased it to Gordy Sykes and Bradley Picket around 1936 and the name was changed to Harbor Light at that time. Sykes and Picket purchased the property in 1938. The cabins were likely built in the early '30s. The large white house on the far left was the Earl and Myrtle Smith family home (moved from its original location on County Road 48) and rented out by Gordy Sykes. On a 1949 tourist brochure found by Dan Helmerson, there is a listing called the Harbor Light Housekeeping Cabins. The cabins were still standing in the 1970s, but no records can be found of what happened to them after that.
