Historical Reflections

The “Jack Frosted” letters on the Grand Marais post office sign indicate that Cook County had a taste of the great blizzard that whipped the area in early March 1966. Postmaster M.D. Quaife is shown unloading a mail sack from the truck at the front entrance because the back entrance was blocked with snow drifts. Looking on are Joe Thomsen, east route carrier; and Hilmer Isaacson and Jim Dalbec (hardly visible in doorway), clerks.
