The state Department of Health sponsored a “Service for Children with Handicaps” in Cook County in September 1981. The annual clinic was held to provide consultation to local physicians and public health nurses, and to identify children who may have chronic health problems. Shown having his ears checked by Dr. Richard Nelson is Jordy Kirk. Three doctors visited Grand Marais for the clinic, and were assisted by nurse Marie Lindemann, right. They examined 56 children.
