Historical Reflections

Because of the cold spring and resulting late spawning of walleyes, the 1975 fishing season was delayed in certain areas of Cook County. The summer season began May 17 for walleyes, northern pike and muskellunge, but was closed until May 31 on sections of the Sea Gull and Cross rivers. Shown in this May 15 photo with fish weighing over 80 pounds are, from left, Don Olson, Axel Haavisto, Doug Gilchrist, Verl Tilbury, Sandy Gilchrist and Frank Rabold.
