Historical Reflections

It was “Hee Haw Day” at the Cook County Nursing Home on Sept. 6, 1974, as depicted in this News-Herald photo by Jim Larsen. Residents enjoyed a day on the farm as they dressed up like farmers and prepared a big harvest meal from their own vegetable garden. Square dancing and a corn-husking contest were part of the festivities as well. Shown, from left, are Hildur Gilbertson, Kay Rosenthal, Ella Christopherson, Evelyn Bockovich, Nola Lindskog, Helen Nelson, Deana Everson, Ed Kluck, Tonnes Hovlund, Barb Creech, Sevold Rise and August Bade. Seated are Art Miller, A.P. Anderson, Lois Nelson, Olive Schuyler, Helen Kriener and Cecelia Olson.
