Historical Reflections

This photo shows the successful applicants in the Schroeder land lottery, held Saturday, June 22, 2002. They became landowners in the 90-acre Fredenberg Creek Estates subdivision, which was developed by the town of Schroeder. The project began with a donation of land from LTV Steel Mining in 1989. An $80,0000 grant from the Iron Range Resources Rehabilitation Board (IRRRB) covered expenses for road construction, surveys, wetland delineation and contractor costs. The township invested approximately $19,000 in the land. The goal of the township was to sell the land to families that will remain in Schroeder, living and working in the community. Lot prices ranged from $7,000 to $12,000. After the Schroeder land lottery on Saturday, successful applicants took another look at the map of their land. (L-R, front) Abby Derix, Aleksey Golubev.
