Historical Reflections

According to the News-Herald archives, this photo from Nov. 9, 1992 shows a young bull moose swimming across Duncan Lake. The moose became a problem for DNR researchers Gary Siesennop of Grand Marais and Tom Goeman of Brainerd as it was heading directly for their test nets. The two men had to redirect the moose, which they said “took some doing.” Siesennop, who frequently contributes photos for modern-day News-Herald readers to enjoy, said he recalled the incident as well as the fact that the lake was misidentified in the newspaper. “If it says anything other than ‘Moss Lake,’ it’s wrong,” he said.
