Historical Reflections

Although a recent submission to the Cook County News-Herald’s letter to the editor section was critical of the current seaplane operating out of the Grand Marais harbor, the use of floatplanes to explore the Arrowhead is nothing new. Pilot Warren LaPanta posted this announcement sometime in the ‘60s. Note that he picked up passengers at a downtown dock, in front of First Avenue West and the waterfront—the same location as today’s seaplane pilot, Dan Anderson of Anderson Aero. This historic poster was found at My Sister’s Place in Grand Marais, among all the other interesting memorabilia at the restaurant.
