This photo was taken in 1946 of the Pigeon River above the falls. Bob Johnson of Lutsen had just gotten out of the Navy and he and two other servicemen took a trip to Thunder Bay. Johnson recalled that clothing was not readily available, so they traveled to Canada where they could find “really good quality woolens and good prices.” Along the way they did some exploring and Bob took this picture of the river logging operation under way. This picture shows the “head frame” where the logs enter a chute.
