This photo shows the Cook County courthouse as construction was wrapping up—100 years ago. The Cook County Historical Society recently reminded the community that the courthouse was built in 1912. Historical Society Director Carrie McHugh asked county commissioners if a celebration was in order. The county board unanimously agreed with the suggestion, so a committee is being formed to plan some celebratory activities to commemorate the courthouse’s 100th anniversary. If you would like to be involved, contact McHugh at the Historical Society Museum in Grand Marais at (218) 387-2883 or e-mail history@boreal.org.
