Historical Reflections

This poignant photo is of Nona Mae (Bockovich) Smith (right) and Val Chester Bockovich in the former town of Mineral Center. Val Chester died in 1930 when he was 3 years old of what was called the “summer complaint.” Nona, who was 5 at the time, was also very ill. The house in the background is the home of Peter Linnell, their grandfather. The descendants of John Linnell, which includes the Peter Linnell family and others who moved to Mineral Center from Black River Falls, Wisconsin, are gathering for a family reunion June 22 – 24 at the Grand Portage Lodge. For information about the reunion, visit www.LinnellFamilyAssociation.com or contact Peggy Peterson at harrypeg@northlc.com or 218-387-1478.
