William “Bill” Bally was known by many as the proprietor of Bally’s Blacksmith Shop in downtown Grand Marais. Bill is the artisan who repaired many vehicles and crafted many memorable pieces such as the fish deck chairs at the Angry Trout Café. But not everyone knew that Bill served in the Korean Conflict. Bill is pictured here in uniform. He died April 11, 2010. His wife of nearly 30 years, Karen Holte, died March 25, 2012. A joint memorial service is being held for the couple on April 28.
