Historical Reflections

Another fun memory of Kenneth Skoog, former Cook County resident, now residing in Cartersville, Georgia, is of Matt Johnson’s grocery store. Skoog recalls that the store had a glass case full of penny candy. He said Matt was a very patient man as he doled out a penny or two worth of candy. “He loved kids to come to his store at lunchtime,” said Ken. The Cook County Historical Society does not have a photo of Matt at the store, but Museum Director Carrie McHugh was able to find this photo of Matt Johnson and his sons.
