In 1910, fire fighting equipment was via “bucket brigade” with only Grand Marais having a volunteer fire department. Note the “fire buckets” on the wagon behind the Grand Marais firefighters in this Cook County Historical Society photo, circa 1910. In recognition of Fire Prevention Week, October 9 – 15, the Cook County News-Herald says “Thank you!” to all our community firefighters, past and present.
