Historical Reflections

Steve Jacobsen of Upland, California and Hovland, a member of the Cook County High School graduating class of 1967, thought it would be fun to share some photos of his class when they were in elementary school. Jacobsen said, “Our class is unique in that we have ongoing get-togethers several times a year—mostly in Grand Marais, but also in the Twin Cities and Phoenix, Arizona. Our actual reunions always last for several days—six days may be the record!”

He said nearly all of the original 80 students in the class of 1967 have appeared at one of the group’s gatherings.

Some of the members of the Class of ’67 are pictured here at Grand Marais Elementary School in 1957. There are a few unknown kids. It is thought that perhaps they were from families that lived in the community during construction of the village of Taconite Harbor. Contact us if you can help identify them.
