Historical Reflections

The Cook County Historical Society has a mystery on its hands. This photo was found in the historical society’s photo archives entitled “Donkey Game, Fisherman’s Picnic.” Do any Cook County News-Herald readers recall ever seeing donkey games at Fisherman’s Picnic celebrations? Any idea if this is really in Grand Marais? Who are these fellows and just what are they trying to get these donkeys to do?

If you enjoy puzzles like this one, you might enjoy participating in an ongoing historical society project. Museum Director Carrie McHugh said the historical society is seeking individuals willing and interested who would enjoy helping to identify photos from 1930 to 2011. For more information, contact Museum Director McHugh at (218) 387- 2883, e-mail history@boreal.org, or stop by the museum on South Broadway.
