The Class of 1961 is celebrating its 50th reunion during the 2011 Fisherman’s Picnic celebration and the Cook County Historical Society thought it would be a good time to share this graduation photo taken by M.J. Humphrey. The historical society has a list of the names of the graduates—however, they would like help from the public to match the faces to the names.
If you enjoy Historical Reflections in the Cook County News-Herald, you might enjoy participating in a historical society project. Museum Director Carrie McHugh said the historical society is seeking individuals willing and interested who would enjoy helping to identify photos from 1930 to 2011. McHugh said, “If you grew up, live now, or lived in Cook County during this period, and you have high-speed Internet access, you are needed. Unidentified photos have little value. Your help would be of great benefit now and for years to come.”
McHugh said with your permission, several times a year you would be e-mailed four photos to help identify. Individuals who respond and help the society will receive a complimentary year membership to the Cook County Historical Society and receive the quarterly newsletter Overlook.
There is no obligation beyond a year, and you can request to have your name removed at any time. Identified photos will be put on the historical society website: www.cookcountyhistory.org. To participate, please contact the Cook County Historical Society by mail at PO Box 1293, Grand Marais, MN 55604, e-mail to history@boreal.org or stop by the Historical Society museum on Broadway. Please provide the following information: name, mailing address and email address. Your name will not be identified but used only for membership and to send the Overlook. “And for our thanks!” said McHugh.
Since photos will be emailed in decades please indicate the decades that are of interest to you: 1930-40, 1940-60, 1960-80, 1980-2000 and 2000 to present. You may, of course, include more than one decade and will receive additional photos.
