St. John’s Catholic Church in Grand Marais celebrates several significant anniversaries this Saturday, June 25, so we thought it would be fun to share a photo from the church’s archives of the groundbreaking of the current church building at 10 East Fifth Street. Pictured here at the groundbreaking were (L-R) Wes Backlund, Rudy Backlund, Hugh Ridgeway, Father Candrian, Brother Elmer Cicci and the cute little girl lending a hand is Carline Sjoberg.
Crystal Stone Kelahan identified a few more of the kids who were featured in the June 11 Historical Reflections. The photo was taken at a deck party at Mable Stoltz’s house in Grand Marais. In the back row were Carol Olson, Rick Gilchrist, Kathy Almlie, Mary Beth Almlie, and Linda Hedstrom. There are a few more unidentified kids—let us know if you know who they are!
