Hike to Grand Portage High Falls and Mount Rose on July 14, 2021

The Happy Hikers will hike the nice, paved High Falls Trail at Grand Portage State Park. This trail is good for all abilities and features a beautiful waterfall viewpoint. 1.2 miles out and back.

We will then travel back to the Grand Portage National Monument, parking at the Visitor Center. The Mount Rose Trail is rated as difficult, but short at just one mile. Climbing 300 vertical feet along a pathway, you’ll see many fine vistas of the bay and the historic fur trade headquarters. If you don’t want to hike the Mount Rose Trail, you have the option of going through the Fort and/or the Visitor Center to wait for the rest of the group. Following the hike, we will have lunch at picnic tables near the entrance to the Mount Rose trail. Well-behaved dogs on a leash are welcome.

Meet at the YMCA parking lot near the tennis courts at 9 a.m. We’ll carpool to Grand Portage State Park, 43 miles east of Grand Marais. Suggested donation for drivers: $3.

WHAT TO BRING: Hat, sunscreen, insect repellent, sturdy hiking shoes/boots, hiking sticks, water, and a sack lunch.
