Highway 61 Pigeon River Bridge Re-deck underway

If you are venturing into Canada, expect delays at the Pigeon River border crossing. The Minnesota Department of Transportation began construction on the Highway 61 Pigeon River bridge at the US-Canadian border on April 10, 2023.

Traffic across the bridge will be reduced to a single lane controlled by temporary traffic signals and will remain that way until October 2023.

There will be intermittent alternate full lane closures of up to 15 minutes that will occur though the whole project.

Work will be done to replace the Pigeon River Bridge deck, including adding new bridge surfacing, railing, guard rail, lighting and approach grading.

Goals are to extend the life of the bridge, reduce the maintenance and upkeep, improve the lighting and provide a smoother road surface.
