Cook County Higher Education is working to build funds for a deserving student through the Nancy and Mike Carlson Scholarship Fund.
“Just Another Nine Patch,” a 96-inch by 102-inch quilt, has been completed and will be displayed at various locations around the county. The quilt was made using Nancy Carlson’s fabric stash by volunteers Evy Briggs, Carol Harris, Carol Evenson, Nancy Backlund, Jean Bushman, Dorothy Danielson, Jan Parish,
Beth Blank, Shirley McAlister, Nancy Hansen, Mary Brislance, Polly Erickson, Anita Jacobson and Judy Steinbrecher.
For every $10 donation made to the Nancy and Mike Carlson Scholarship Fund, your name will be entered in a drawing, which will be held Sept. 9 at an afternoon tea at Naniboujou Lodge with speaker Karen Halbersleben.
The scholarship provides an annual award for a student seeking a degree or certificate in literacy or education including early childhood education, K-12 licensure, higher education, and special education.
“Help us grow this scholarship fund as a wonderful testimony to Nancy and Mike in honor of their amazing work in this community, their dedication to education, and in loving memory of Nancy Carlson who passed away September 25 after a valiant six-year battle with carcinoid cancer,” said Higher Ed director Paula Sundet Wolf.
Donations may be made online at www.northshorecampus. org; at Higher Ed headquarters at 300 W. 3rd St. in Grand Marais; or by check to CCHE, PO Box 57, Grand Marais, MN 55604.
