The next Guest Lecture event at Cook County Higher Education will feature Hillary Freeman and Carol Mork who will present Telling the Story of a Civil War Battle: Our Stones River National Battlefield Volunteer Experience.
The talk will be Thursday, June 20, 2013, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. at the North Shore Campus in Grand Marais.
In April and May 2013, Hillary and Carol served as volunteer interpreters at the Stones River National Battlefield, a National Park Service site in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
Hillary and Carol will talk about their experiences as well as discuss what they learned about telling the story of the Stones River Battle, an important military and political Civil War battle for the Union. This will be an intriguing presentation, especially for history buffs!
Hillary Freeman recently retired as director of the Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches Community Justice Project and has spent her career in public service through Minneapolis Community Education and the Minneapolis Police Department. Carol Mork is a retired educator, community developer, and Lutheran pastor. Both women enjoy traveling, learning new things, and meeting new people. They are starting their third year as Grand Marais residents.
The Guest Lecture Series of Cook County Higher Education is offered to the community free, although donations are appreciated. The series is sponsored by the Grand Marais State Bank, Drury Lane Books, George F. Maruska Ltd., the Lake Superior Trading Post, Como Oil & Propane, and Sawbill Outfitters. Refreshments are donated by Beth’s Fudge and Gifts and Johnson’s Foods. The lectures are held at Cook County Higher Education’s North Shore campus, located at 300 West 3rd Street in Grand Marais.
