Cook County Higher Education is offering Basic Welding
beginning Oct. 24. This 21-hour course provides the student with an understanding of basic welding fundamentals and the ability to properly and safely use gas and electric welding equipment to perform welding and cutting procedures in the flat position. There will be a sculptural dynamic to this course that will address basic layout and fabrication techniques.
Basic Welding
will be taught by Don Hammer, who has an art degree from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Don has spent many years as a blacksmith and as an automotive coachbuilder, building prototype and concept cars and motorcycles. In addition, Don has taught metal sculpture classes at the Minnetonka Center for the Arts, the Lake Elmo Regional Art Center and The Guild of Metalsmiths.
The course will be offered over four days — Oct. 24, 25, and 31, and Nov. 1 at the Cook County High School. The course fee is $200 plus $40 for materials. Lake Superior College CEU’s are available.
