Higher Ed encourages donations

Cook County Higher Education is seeking donations to establish an endowment fund to protect the local higher education organization in light of legislative cuts—current and future. To get started, Sue Riley, a local resident who has a heart for education, has offered a $1,000 matching fund to match community donations.

Higher Ed Board Member Beth Kennedy said Higher Ed has received donations from some community members who recognize how important education is to people in this county. One local resident said she brought her check to the Higher Ed building in person because it is much more satisfying that way.

Kennedy said, “We want and need satisfied donors—so bring it in, go online, or stick it in the mail, but more importantly, just do it.”

Kennedy answered the question, why is it important to have college in Cook County? “Education often increases income, helps people find year-round work and helps people find more meaningful work. Look around and you will see lots of graduates of Higher Ed’s programs— nurses, CNAs, massage therapists, chemical dependency students, and business students.”

Kennedy said Higher Ed has a 90 percent success rate because of the mentoring and support given here in the county.

There are several ways you can pledge your support. You can go to CCHE’s web page and make your pledge online at www.northshorecampus.org (use the Donate button); mail a check to CCHE, PO Box 57, Grand Marais, MN 55604, or stop in at the North Shore Campus, 300 W. 3rd St. in Grand Marais, and make your gift in person.
