Sharon Hexum Platzer, Lutsen, is running for a three-year term on the Arrowhead Cooperative’s Board of Directors. She is hoping to replace Scott Harrison, the District 6 representative who has fulfilled his term limits on the board. If Sharon wins, she will be the second woman serving on the seven-member board.
Here is a short interview with Sharon.
“Our family have been members even before the name Arrowhead Electric was chosen for this rural cooperative. I graduated from Cook County High School. Before returning to Cook County to live full time, I taught in Duluth and lead schools as a consultant for statewide struggling school districts working with staff and administrators. I was a finalist for MN Teacher of the Year. In addition, I taught graduate classes for Hamlin, St. Thomas, and St. Scholastica. Providing leadership was key in my role in the Best Practices networks: Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. After returning to Lutsen, I wrote successful grants that support our town for both tourism and the safety of residents and visitors.
“I believe that financial and environmental accountability are topics businesses and non-profits face today. Arrowhead Electric does as well. People who know this should be on the A. E. board. Working as a team is important for any board, and I have worked collaboratively on these entities: CLPOA< RSVP Bone Builders, Lutsen Trailbreakers, Lutsen Township, Lutsen Church council, and the Lutsen Annual Rummage Sale. In each of these roles, I’ve had leadership positions. I volunteer for several organizations in the county.
“What makes my candidacy different, perhaps, is that I have and build relationships with both new and long-time county residents. Collaboration, leadership, and problem solving are important attributes I hope to share with the Board.”
