Helping Hands of Cook County has only been in operation for a couple of weeks. Still, the nonprofit has already assisted more than half a dozen families and individuals said Jes Rodne, who, along with Christine Conroy, organized and leads the small nonprofit.
It works this way. Say you need a pair of winter boots for you or your child and can’t afford to purchase a new pair. What you would do is post a message declaring your need on the “Cook County Helping Hands” Facebook page, and someone from the community would respond with a pair of boots. Both the person asking and the donor are anonymous, said Rodne.
“It can be hard for people in need to ask for help,” Rodne said. “That’s why we created this page. “
Jes said the idea is for her and Christine to be a go-between. “You can share with us your needs through a private message, email, or text. And we will publish that need on our page without your private information. I have no doubt the community will find a way to help support their fellow neighbors.”
