Grand Marais Mayor Jay Arrowsmith DeCoux is hoping to temporarily lose his hair, both his beard and the reddish locks on his head.

But at a price.

Mayor Jay has agreed to shave his head if we can raise $2,500 by the fundraising event for Paulina Backstrom, who was recently diagnosed with stage 4 Thymoma Cancer, said Andrea Everson, one of the event organizers.

“If we raise a total of $5,000, he will shave his head and his beard,” exclaimed Andrea.

The benefit will be held on August 15 at Skyport Lodge.

From 5 to 9 p.m. there will be spaghetti and pizza provided by Skyport and Sven & Ole’s. Cost is $20 for adults and $10 for kids 12 and under. In addition there will be a silent auction and raffle, with all of the proceeds going to Paulina and her family.

If people want to donate to see Mayor Jay get his hair and his beard shaved off, please mail a check to Andrea Everson, P.O. Box 1260, Grand Marais, MN 55604 and make the check out to Paulina Backstrom Benefit Account and in the note please write Shave the Mayor!

“We will shave his head and hopefully his beard the night of the benefit,” Andrea said.
