To the people of Cook County:
Our Cook County youth need you—and your money. Many of us were disappointed when the school referendum failed last fall, but no one more than the students of ISD 166. Of course, they’re always the ones who suffer when cuts are made at school. I’ve seen it over and over during my career as a teacher, but this time the cuts will be deep.
I recently attended E.A.T.S., the Education Foundation fundraiser, and was impressed at the talent and dedication of the students who helped out, from the Honor Society students who helped set up to the phenomenal pastry chefs and talented musicians. Our new school choir blew my socks off. They were phenomenal. We have much to be proud of, and these kids need our support.
The school has started making $500,000 in budget cuts, and we as a community need to step forward to help make those cuts less deep. Any donation to the school will help, but if you want to donate what you might have paid under the levy, it would be about $65 for each $100,000 of property value. If you want to know exactly what you would have paid, go to levyinfo.com/LevyInfo/ ISD166_ 2015.php. If you’re in a position to do more, please consider doubling or tripling your “levy.”
Checks should be mailed to Cook County Schools, 101 West 5th Street, Grand Marais. Please encourage your friends to do the same. Together we can save some courses, teachers, and extracurricular programs. Please help give our kids the opportunities they deserve.
