Helen V. Ford, 81, Grand Marais, died Saturday, May 28, 2016 in the North Shore Care Center.
She was born January 15, 1935 to Julius and Caroline (Jacobson) Bergstrom in Hovland, where she grew up, graduating from Cook County High School in 1953.
Helen married Troy Ford in 1955 and raised their family in the Chicago area, before returning to Cook County in 1972. They operated Ryden’s Café until 1982, when they purchased South of the Border Café in Grand Marais. They retired to Las Vegas for several years until Troy’s health problems brought them back to Grand Marais.
Helen was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hovland, and enjoyed casinos, bingo, and her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Troy; and brother, Arnold.
She is survived by her sons, James (Wendy) and Steven (Cheryl) Ford; a daughter Nora (Wayne) Hollar; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brothers, Ken, Earl, Ron, and Wesley; sister, Eva; and special nephew, Shannon Hicks.
