Slipping into a conversation with Baiers Heeren is as easy as slipping into a favorite easy chair: warm and comfortable.
For those of you who don’t know Baiers, he is the new owner of Heeren (pronounced Herron) Swanson Law firm.
“We’re glad to be back,” said Heeren.
Baiers and his wife, Allison, their two children Anna, a first grader, and son, Weston, a preschooler, lived in Cook County for about a year before returning to Stillwater, Mn.
“We couldn’t sell our house so we had to go back,” said Heeren.
Once the house sold, the Heerens knew they would like to put the city lights in their rear view mirror and move back to the North Shore. After talking with his former boss, Richard “Dick” Swanson, a deal was made and Baiers returned to purchase the firm about two months ago. But Swanson isn’t ready to paddle into the sunset just yet.
“Dick is going to stay and work two days a week. It will be good to have his experience and expertise available to us,” said Heeren.
A graduate of William Mitchell Law School, Heeren has been practicing law for about nine years. He is well versed in real estate law and worked with municipal prosecution and municipal contract law while working in Stillwater.
Allison graduated with a degree in nursing from the University of Saskatchewan and was recently hired to be the Cook County School District 166 school nurse for 2010-2011. Allison will work two days a week in her new job.
With four attorneys and three support staff, Baiers feels his group is well equipped to handle a wide array of legal needs.
“We’re fairly well rounded. Our skills and interests are varied and that allows us to take on a fairly wide spectrum of legal work, anything from real estate law, business law, some litigation and family law. I feel there is a hole in the family law section in this community. People shouldn’t have to run down to Duluth for this type of legal work,” said Heeren.
Free time finds this young family enjoying the great outdoors. “Allison is no weather wimp, that’s for sure. Growing up in Regina, Saskatchewan, she’s used to cold winters. I ride her coattails on the fishing and canoeing activities. As for me, I like to downhill and cross-country ski and run long distance. As a family we like camping, hiking, snowshoeing and spending time with friends. So far we have met about 15 couples and every one of them have been very nice. We feel welcomed into this community and are enjoying living here,” said Heeren.
