My mom and dad moved to South Haven for the Winter. This has been an excellent opportunity to reconnect with my favorite childhood recipes and my mom’s best treats. Of course, she brought her sourdough starter, so we’ve enjoyed pancakes and waffles almost every weekend and one night for dinner. I’m not sharing the sourdough recipe here. Not because I am selfish, but I have killed more starters than I can count on two hands, so I would be no good at advising on those recipes. It’s a family joke about when my mother mailed me a starter, which blew up in my mailbox!
I have decided to print the recipes for Mom’s dinner rolls, delicious egg noodles, and her Sprite pie crusts. A perfect Sunday is when we make all three. Chicken noodle soup simmering on the stove, fresh dinner rolls baking in the oven alongside a homemade pumpkin pie. Can you say Heartfelt Home Recipes? We are blessed.
I am treasuring these days together—playing cards, sharing stories, and eating good food. Winter will soon be here, but I feel better about being snowed in with Mike and my mom and dad. I might be a Minnesota girl, but I don’t like the cold. Snow is easier to face with a good meal in the kitchen. Peace and hugs to you, Sandy
“No one who cooks, cooks alone. Even at her most solitary, a cook in the kitchen is surrounded by generations of cooks past, the advice, and menus of cooks present, the wisdom of cookbook writers.”
