As I watch the ABC evening nightmares of the latest school tragedy in Florida, my heart goes out to all those affected by this senseless tragedy. People will wonder why or how this could happen; people will want to blame gun lobbyists, others will want to blame politicians for not having stricter gun control laws, some will want to blame the parents saying they didn’t raise this kid right, others will blame society for not seeing the warning signs.
I believe this is a spiritual issue that has spiraled ever since the Supreme Court deemed in 1963 that it was unconstitutional to pray openly in a public school. We removed God from our schools, the Ten Commandments from our government buildings, we’ve taught children at an early age that we’re nothing but an evolved form of cells.
In addition, in an effort to be all-inclusive and gender-neutral we’ve actually done just the opposite. We’ve ostracized and excluded those who want to practice their religion in clubs in public schools, we’ve told them that it’s not permissible to say the Pledge of Allegiance and this past week in San Ramon, California, the school administrator deemed that singing the “Star Spangled Banner” at public events showed racial inequality and was insensitive to other races and that it wasn’t all inclusive so has banned it.
This thinking, this ideology that has become so permissive is what really is the heart of the matter. Kids are taught that their lives don’t matter, that we aren’t created in God’s image, that we are to show tolerance and acceptance, but then show intolerance and unacceptance of anyone that goes against the progressive mindset that has permeated our society. So the truth of the matter is it’s a heart issue, it’s a feeling of emptiness and loneliness and hopelessness that is sweeping through our nation and schools. Opioid abuse is rampant, people are committing suicide at unprecedented levels and until people in authority that make the laws, the regulations the policies and procedures change, I really don’t see any positive change as sadly as that may sound.
