Chris Stromberg has been named coordinator of the Heart of the Continent Partnership.
Stromberg started his affiliation with HOCP in 2008. As a Quetico park ranger and Atikokan resident, he knows the woods, water and wildlife of the region well. Throughout his involvement with HOCP he was very engaged in the work.
Stromberg was a lead paddler on the Canoe the Heart trip in 2009, participated in the International Community Congress in 2011, assisted with the Sister Sites agreement between government land management agencies in 2012, served as a steering committee member and was active in the Connecting Volunteers initiative.
A U.S. and Canadian transition team made up of HOCP steering committee members and HOCP general members used an application process including phone and in-person interviews.
Stromberg brings a wealth of knowledge and coordinating skills to HOCP. His work with Northern Ontario groups like Friends of the Quetico, Beaten Path, ski events and others shows a deep respect for the region, its natural qualities and the people in its communities.
The new coordinator is based out of Atikokan and the Atikokan Economic Development Corporation (AEDC) office there, moving the base of HOCP to Canada for the first time.
. The next meeting of the Heart of the Continent will be in Cook County on October 22-23 at Caribou Highlands in Lutsen. Visit www.heartofthecontinent.org for more information.
