Karl Hansen, director of the North Shore Health Care Foundation is pleased to announce that the Foundation has been awarded a $10,000 start-up grant from the Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation. This grant will allow the development of the proposed hospice program to continue to move forward.
In addition to pursuing other grants to support the program, the end-of-life volunteers are creating a presentation and brochure to educate the community about hospice/ palliative care and the various ways the community can help sustain such a program. Because Cook County is one of the fastest aging counties in Minnesota, there is a critical need for additional end-of-life support services within our community.
Hansen said, “Thanks go to the NSHCF, the hospice program development oversight committee, our physicians, the hospital and clinic administrators, the Cook County community, and especially our end-of-life volunteers for all of their support and dedication. Their collective work, focused on the development of a hospice program, brings it much closer to a reality.”
