Looking for a laugh? Head to the Harbor Light Company Supper Club on Labor Day weekend for the North Shore’s Funniest Person Contest & Show, featuring some of the finest comedic talent in Minnesota, along with a chance to take the stage yourself if you are brave enough.
Harbor Light proprietor Cheryl Walimaa said the idea for the comedy contest was born after the very successful appearance of Jeremy Michael Olson “The Dude Man” at Harbor Light’s re-opening celebration at the beginning of August. Olson will return for the North Shore Funniest Person Contest, bringing his musical genius combined with his raucous observational humor.
Joining him will be several other comics, including Bob DeMaris who describes himself as “actively in recovery…from marriage and children.” This comedian from the Iron Range has headlined at Fortune Bay Casino, ACME Comedy in the Twin Cities, and many other clubs. He has also been an opening act for a laundry list of comedians such as Dave Mordal, Tom Arnold, and Louie Anderson.
Also appearing will be Durand Erickson from Anoka, MN, a young comedian whose style can best be described as twisted! And confirmed at press time is Gabe Nelson, another Louie Anderson opening act, whose “overly honest” stories will have you laughing about things you don’t normally think about.
The comedy stars will take the stage between amateurs who want to give stand-up a spin. Registration for the North Shore’s Funniest Person is at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 3 and performances begin at 6:30 p.m. The comedy will continue on Sunday, September 4 at 6:30 p.m. with finals that evening.
Come on out and cheer on your favorite comedian. Admission is only $5—free for contestants. Prizes will be awarded to the North Shore’s Funniest Person!
