Head south for an ice bar so cool it’ll give you the chills

Grand Superior Lodge in Two Harbors will unveil BLU, Ice Bar and Lounge
for the 2010 Winter Solstice. BLU
will be open for Winter Solstice, Dec. 21. It will remain open as long as the ice remains; the plan is through mid-March.

BLU, Ice Bar and Lounge
will be crafted with the help of Chris Swarbrick, carving champion from the St. Paul Winter Carnival. Swarbrick has won three of the past four years. Grand Superior Lodge’s own Executive Chef Dan Lageson will also assist with the creation of BLU.

BLU
will include more than 200 ice blocks weighing 350 pounds each. Rope lights in and around the bar will illuminate the entire area creating an incredible ambience. A menu of specialty drinks will be offered in glasses (shot glasses too) made entirely of ice! There will also be two luges built into the bar made of ice that will chill your martini as it is poured through the ice channel. Every Saturday, guests will enjoy entertainment and activities while also “chilling out” at a handcrafted, one-of-a-kind bar.

BLU
is a perfect addition to the wonderland of natural beauty and winter activities offered at Grand Superior Lodge. The fire pit will be blazing, the nearby skating pond will be lit, the grounds will be festively lit and the music will play. Dog sledding, carriage rides and sleigh rides are all in the works.

Guests are encouraged to dress up for this true Minnesota experience. And by dress up, we mean your warmest boots, scarves, mittens and jackets.
