Have you ever?

Waited until 12 inches of heavy snow fell on your car before you bought a windshield scraper?

Had your car’s 3,000- mile oil change done at 5,000 miles? Or more?

Desperately tried to get your printer to work on Dec. 23 so you could get your Christmas letter in the mail?

Waited until your prescription ran out before re-ordering only to find your doctor needed to renew it?

And, of course, didn’t renew your driver’s license until the day of your actual birthday which meant you had to carry around a permission slip to drive long before the real license appeared in the mail?

If so, welcome to the world of Procrastinators. We are the people who don’t mean to wait until the last minute; it’s just that the days fly by … things happen…and let’s face it, if the task is fun, we’d have done it in a flash.

“Stay ahead of the game” is a great motto if you can do it. I normally can’t, but last month, when Dick and I remembered that our passports were expiring, I volunteered to take care of this tedious chore. No problem, I thought, I have until July 2017.

A month has passed, and I’ve done nothing. The very writing of these words makes me clutch, and my fellow Procrastinators will completely understand my nervousness. Why?

The deadline is too far away. It’s still five months in the future, very dangerous for people who function better at the last minute. At the beginning of this column, I figured that going public would help me to get a move on. Inspire me to action.

And it sort of did.

I realized I could start out by Googling and, what the heck maybe find a passport renewal website. This might be a lot easier than I thought. On the other hand, will I get this task done sooner not later? We shall see.
