Haussner wins three events at sub-sections

Senior track athlete Jack Haussner’s spring season seems to get better with every track meet.

Haussner took three first places in the South Sub-Section 7A track and field championships held at Esko stadium on May 22. The top three finishers in each event move on to the section 7A state qualifying meet.

Jack won the 110-meter high hurdles with a lifetime best of 15.48 seconds. Last year Jack placed 10th at state with a time of 16 seconds.

Next, Jack won the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 11 inches, which was almost two feet in front of second place. Jack’s previous best long jump was 20 feet, one inch.

Last, Jack motored around the turn in the 200 meters, flying down the stretch and hitting the tape in 23.71 to easily win that event.

Will Surbaugh also had a great meet. Will finished second in the 1600 meter (one mile) run with a time of 4:47.74. Will placed fourth in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10:36:65.

Other boys who competed and their events were: 200 meters, Ben Rex, 28.66 and Raymond Degroat, 30.96.

400 meters: Tanner DeBoer, 1:03.29 and Kyler Hansen, 1:19.18.

1600 meters: Kevin Viren, 5:04.25, and Keegan Morrison, 5:35.93.

3200 meters: Brayden Schmidt, 12:25.73, and TJ Surbaugh, 13:03.71.

Shot put: Raymond Degroat, 27:03 feet.

Discus: Raymond Degroat, 71 feet.

4×400 relay: The team of Jak Haussner, Will Surbaugh, Tanner DeBoer, and Ben Rex placed 8th in 4:01.04.

Girls’ results

Anna Hay, a freshman, placed 13th in the 200 meters with a time of 30.92. Payton Dobin was 20th in 31.70, and Ellen Callender finished 29th in 33.12.

Molly LaVigne, another fleet-footed freshman, placed sixth in the 100 meters with a time of 14:07.

Sophomore Malin Anderson placed eighth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:39.53. Eighthgrader Sammie Garrity took 24th in 3:04:20 and fellow eighth-grader Kylie Viren was 31st in 3:20.64.

Senior Claire LaVigne placed eighth in the 1600 meter run, crossing the finish line in 6:02.76. Sophomore Louise Ramber placed 15th in 6:24.96 and ninth-grader Cece Chmelik took 19th in 6:45.

The 4×400 meter relay team of Malin Anderson, Clair LaVigne Molly LaVigne and Anna Hay placed ninth in 5:01.97.

Sammie Garrity, Cece Chmelik, Kylie Viren, and Robin Henrikson placed seventh in the 4×800 meter relay in 12:27.75.

Sophomore Hailey Smith threw the shot put 26 feet, 10 inches to finish 12th.

In the discus event, Hailey heaved it 56 feet to take 24th overall.

The state qualifying section 7A track meet was held on Thursday, May 31 at the University of Minnesota track after the paper went to press. We will have those results next week.
